clapping, sailing, and love.

today is so totally gorgeous. after a nice drive (windows down, music up, duh.) and lunch with my oldest and closest friends, amber and maggie, i got home and was going to spend the afternoon making myself a new skirt. but due to a sewing machine malfunction about half way through, that plan got thwarted so i decided to post again.

lately i have noticed a recurring theme in my recent music choice. i've been listening to a lot of songs with either one or more of the following elements: clapping as percussion, nautical, having a crush or being in love/growing old together. i guess the reason for the last two is that even though there isn't even so much as a boyfriend on the horizon, that is definitely something that is always on my mind. cause lets admit it. after 4 years of being single, i'm ready for a boyfriend again. well not just any boy. the right boy. anyway. onward with the music.

first up: Something in the Water and Sailboats both by Brooke Fraser.
I am in love with this lyric from Sailboats: "You set my limbs locked hard afloat, lifted my lonesome sails. The tide is out, the moon is high, we're sailing. Darling, your love is healing it makes the bitter sweet. Warms the winter to spring again, secures the colds defeat." I love everything about the imagery of that. To me it perfectly describes love.
The subheader of my blog says "she wears a demeanor made of bright pretty things..." which is a line from Something in the Water. This song makes me so happy. It has clapping, it has new love, AND it has a water reference. Watch the video. You'll be glad you did.

another song with a nautical theme that i love is Sailor Song by First Aid Kit. First Aid Kit is a sister duo that i recently stumbled upon and their harmonies are just gorgeous. i love this song because to me it talks about unrequited love. which i am ALL about. i love the romance of the idea of a woman waiting for her man for as long as she must. i constantly harbor what i call unrequited crushes. because nothing ever comes of them. ha.

this next song is named I Do and it is by a lovely lady named Lee Anna Culp, who hails from sweet home Alabama. i heard this song on birmingham mountain radio the other night and have been smitten with it ever since. it's just too adorable.

Hey Na Na by Katie Herzig is probably the funnest song I've heard in a while. It's all about having a crush. it's just a super cute, fun song. oooh and it has clapping!! i've come to realize recently that i love just about any song that has clapping in it. bizarre. you might have heard this song on a target commercial recently!

this guy. matthew mayfield. the song title says it all: Grow Old with You. this is a song off of his new album, "Now You're Free" that comes out next month. buy it. i swear you won't be disappointed.

and i leave you with this:
